Process Pipework Design
Diageo Waterford was experiencing integrity failures in their hot liquor distribution pipework to the brewery.

This necessitated a substantial replacement of over 2,000 meters of food grade stainless steel pipe ranging in size from 50mm to 200mm diameter. It was determined that the continual expansion and contraction of the pipes was a major factor in the failures identified and a re- design of pipe routes, supports and anchor points were necessary.
Malone Group carried out a full design study to replace existing pipework incorporating new routes, anchor points and slide bracket supports to allow expansion and contraction within the permissible stress limits of each individual pipe.
Due to the extent of pipe replacement and requirement to maintain brewing production a large amount of pre-fabrication was required with carefully managed tie-ins to existing plant carried out over a number of weeks.
All pipe fabrication was carried out by certified and pre-tested stainless steel welders with 10% non destructive testing of all welds with full passivation and water analysis carried out prior to handover.
This project was totally managed by Malone Group working closely with brewery operations, quality control, process fabrication engineers and our own health and safety team who were instrumental in carrying out a design hazard analysis together with ensuring safe working methods were established and adhered to.
The project was fully documented and validated with as installed CAD drawings, new and updated P&IDs.
