Arch Chemicals engaged Malone Engineering Group to design a powder handling and collection system for zinc omadine waste to resolve health and safety issues and improve cost efficiency.

The zinc omadine waste was taken removed from a filter press and manually broken down into sealed drums for disposal. Due to the consistency and water content variations the volume and weight contained in each drum varied greatly which directly impacted transport disposal costs.

Malone Group designed an automatic special purpose machine and conveying system to consistently break down the waste and fill directly into steel drums for disposal.

This customised solution was detailed, manufactured and tested by our project team to ensure the URS requirements were met with full operator control interfaces and safety interlocks while ensuring the machine was constructed to operate on a rigorous 24 hour shift pattern.

The manual handling was all but eliminated and by greatly improving the breaking down of the waste material, disposal costs were reduced by 25% realising a full return on investment within 6 months.
