Changes in legislation triggering a requirement for strategy development

The customer is an international pharmaceutical company with two manufacturing plants in Ireland employing over 300 staff. At the Dublin plant, the company had three full time project managers, a full time Health and Safety Manager, a Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) and a Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) for all capital expenditure (capex) projects. The changes in Health & Safety legislation prompted the business to rethink their strategy for delivering health and safety on all capital projects.

 

Development of strategy for health and safety projects

Malone Group was engaged by the customer to develop the health and safety strategy for all onsite projects. The customers typical annual project spend was around €3 million, spread over 7 to 8 projects. At the time that Malone Group was engaged, the customer had a list of projects in different areas that they wanted to deliver on. This was a very hazardous working environment where it was crucial to setup lot of controls to maintain health and safety standards. As part of the strategy the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) were restructured.

The customer recognised the value added at each stage of the project, as we successfully delivered a consistent approach to health and safety across all projects in a hazardous environment. The safety statistics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) achieved were recognised as best-in-class for the industry sector.
